Chessmix: A Chess Fanmix in Three Parts
After several weeks of taking notes and careful consideration, I have a fanmix for the musical Chess. I drew inspiration from bits and pieces of many different versions of the story, but the idea is mostly to reflect on the circumstances surrounding the three main romantic relationships that crop up in almost all of them. I HOPE YOU LIKE IT.
Part One: “I never once made a good move.”
- Phoenix - “Lisztomania”
No, I gotta be someone else
These days it comes it comes it comes it comes it comes and goes - Third Eye Blind - “How’s It Gonna Be”
I want to get out of this
I wonder
Is there anything I’m going to miss? - Bon Iver - “Skinny Love”
And now all your love is wasted?
And then who the hell was I? - The Fray - “Cable Car”
And suddenly I become a part of your past
I’m becoming the part that don’t last
I’m losing you and its effortless
Part Two: ”You must believe me, I only want for you to be happy.”
- Regina Spektor - “Small Town Moon”
I wish you wouldn’t’ve broke my camera
‘Cause we’re gonna get real old real soon
Today we’re younger than we ever gonna be - Coldplay - “Lovers In Japan”
But I have no doubt
One day, we’re gonna get out
Tonight maybe we’re gonna run - Rachel Yamagata - “Be Be Your Love”
Oh, how I try to be just okay
Yeah, but all I ever really wanted
Was a little piece of you - Duncan Sheik - “Far Away”
Let the words within you
Whisper to you how I miss you
Far away, far away
Part Three: ”And years ago you loved her.”
- Death Cab For Cutie - “Brothers On a Hotel Bed”
‘Cause now we say goodnight
From our own separate sides
Like brothers on a hotel bed - Regina Spektor - “8th Floor”
She comes into the house
And no one waits for her inside the house
She spots a stranger in the mirror - Mumford and Sons - “Little Lion Man”
But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line - Feist and Ben Gibbard - “Train Song”
It’s so many miles and so long since I’ve left you
Don’t even know what I’ll find when I get to you
But suddenly now, I know where I belong
Bonus Song: “It would be funny, if it weren’t so serious.”
- The Beatles - “Back in the USSR”
I’m back in the USSR
You don’t know how lucky you are, boys
