My favorite Wendla continues to be Christy Altomare.

I love Christy’s voice for the role. It’s not quite as powerful as some other Wendlas but it has a soulfulness to it that gives Wendla an air of maturity in her songs that does a nice job of contrasting her naivete in the scenes. She has such an expressive face and I could just watch her sing with the sound off…
I could give honorable mentions to Alexandra Socha in her later days as an understudy for injecting new youthfulness and life into the original interpretation, and to Eryn Murman for making me feel like Wendla had a mind of her own more than just being a victim of circumstance.
