OH MY GOD finally a professionally filmed recording of the Tufts Beelzebubs (aka the voices of the Dalton Warblers) singing “Teenage Dream” live with Eric Morrissey doing the solo. I know at least one person I follow really preferred him to the group’s usual soloist for this song but we never had decent video before.

I swear to God you guys someday they need to actually team up with Darren Criss. We are so close and yet so far from an honest to goodness live version of this song as it was sung on Glee.

I have a soft spot for acapella groups, seeing I was in one when I was in high school and I pretty much listened to nothing but acapella songs then. I’m so glad that a group such as the Bubs are getting much exposure in a show such a Glee! It’s just so exciting and gahh, I’m just in love with their voices!

Hi Bubs I love you

Look at these guys!! They’re so adorable!! How have I never seen a performance from them before?! Awww yay! This makes me really happy!

Ahh, The Bubs are the best:D & they have so much fun performing, it’s great. I can’t imagine where we’d be without them, ♥.

Can they please make an appearance at the Boston show, since that’s where they are based? I would be very pleased with this, indeed.

I freaking love these guys! I knew about them before Glee and when I found out they were gonna record tracks for the show, I lost my shit! I’m a HUGE fan of a capella music, since I can remember. They’re SO awsome.

I need to bring this back onto my blog. As a reminder, I compiled MP3s of all of their songs from this show including this song.

Tufts Beelzebubs live at University of Maryland

So, a few days ago I posted this video of the Tufts Beelzebubs (aka the fine a cappella-singing gentlemen whose voices are used for Glee’s Dalton Academy Warblers) singing “Teenage Dream” at the University of Maryland, which was filmed by said school and therefore high quality. I’ve now ripped the audio of that song as well as the other 7 songs posted from that show, and I am sharing it with you if you would also like to have more live warbling in your life.

idk what order the songs were actually performed in, so I rearranged them into what I thought was a good tracklist:

  1. Teenage Dream (Katy Perry)
    soloist: Eric Morrissey
  2. Bottoms Up (Trey Songz)
soloist: John Kwon w/ Eric Morrissey
  3. Always Be My Baby (Mariah Carey)
    soloist: Jack Thomas
  4. Sweet Caroline (Neil Diamond)
    soloist: Penn Rosen
  5. Feelin’ Alright (Joe Cocker)
    soloist: Sam Cantor
  6. Sara Smile (Hall & Oates)
    soloist: Penn Rosen
  7. Timshel (Mumford & Sons)
soloist: Jack Thomas w/ Eli Seidman and John Kwon
  8. One Day (Matisyahu)
soloist: Eric Morrissey w/ John Kwon

GET IT

You should also, you know, consider supporting the group by looking up their studio recordings on iTunes/Amazon/etc.

ERIIIIIIIIC MY LOVE

It’s not the same arrangement as the glee version tho… The harmonies and chord structures are different… Glee version is still the best..

I don’t have a good enough ear to tell if you’re right, but the group has spoken before as to the difference between the recordings they do for Glee and their live performances (and presumably part of why “Teenage Dream” is the only Warbler song they’re currently doing at their own shows):

The all-male a cappella group was familiar with the recording studio – in its 45-year history, the group has recorded 27 albums – and with television, having appeared on NBC’s The Sing-Off in 2009, placing second. But recording the songs before performing them live was new to the group.

“You’re really skipping a step,” explained Ed Boyle, an alum who arranges for the Beelzebubs and has arranged all of the Warblers songs. “You don’t have to concern yourself with ‘Oh, is this the exact number of parts as I have number of singers?’”

With multiple tracking and over-dubbing, the 11-member group can sound bigger than they can when singing live. They’re also free to take more risks with range. A high or low note that might have been a risk to aim for live is fair game for the singers when they can record multiple takes in the studio.

Man, lots of Warbley articles today.

Beelzebubs singing with ‘Glee’

Since then, the Beelzebubs have mostly returned to their collegiate a cappella routine — when they’re not recording for “Glee,’’ that is. They’ve also released two digital tracks of their own on iTunes and have an album due out this fall. But don’t expect to catch a glimpse of the ’Bubs on stage with the “Glee’’ kids when the show’s live tour passes through Boston in June.

“If we are, they haven’t asked us yet,’’ Powell says.

So I suppose all signs point to the Warblers lip syncing on the tour. What a shame :(

Tufts Beelzebubs singing “Teenage Dream” at Penn State.

“Picture us, we’re on stage, we’re the Tufts Beelzebubs, yet… we’re much taller, very, very attractive, our hair is well coiffed, our outfits are blue blazers with a bit of red trim on the side, we are much more racially diverse…”
