What makes the Warblers’ songs so Warbley? Well, as far as I can figure, it’s the winning combination of Darren Criss’ (and sometime’s Chris Colfer’s) solos, the Tufts Beelzebubs’ background vocalizing, and the a cappella arrangements of Ed Boyer. With the Warbler’s loss at regionals and a new Glee episode (and the Warblers’ album!) not coming until April, it’s easy to fall into Warbler withdrawal. Hopefully this compilation of songs performed by the Tufts Bubs and (all at least partly, to the best of my knowledge) arranged by Ed Boyer are Warbler-like enough to help your post-Warbler depression.
The download is for rips of live performances, but I’ve also compiled links below to buy professionally recorded versions if you prefer higher quality audio and wish to support the performers (soloist information refers to the included performances).

I did my best to check all of the information here (soloists and so on), but if I’ve made an error somewhere, just let me know.
Heads up, Bubs are talking about Bills, Bills, Bills on Twitter right now and have clarified once again that they are, indeed, the voices of the Dalton Academy Warblers and touch on why they don’t appear on camera.

I’m a little disappointed in Glee’s “Bills, Bills, Bills” tbh.
Now, I am sure as hell no expert in a cappella or sound engineering or anything like that, but as seems to be a trend in Glee songs in general, certainly, including the Warbler’s songs (I should probably say, seems to be a trend in Beelzebubs recordings lately, including the Warblers’ songs), there seems to be a lot of… I don’t know, I think the word I’m looking for is overproduction.
To better illustrate why this is bothering me, I’ve compiled some clips — first is this live performance from a couple years ago. Second is the version off the Tufts Beelzebubs’ 2001 album Next (the Amazon preview). Lastly is the new recording with Darren Criss for “Glee”. (They’re all more or less different groups of people but essentially the same arrangement.) I can’t help but find the sound of the last one to be a step down.
I love Darren Criss, and the Beelzebubs, and Glee (well, we have a love/hate relationship) so I just wish I could love these songs as much as I want toooooooo.
Okay, so, earlier I was complaining a little about how I like live stuff more than studio recorded stuff (when the artist has the skills to properly perform live) in general. Here’s an example that’s been bugging me for a while. I love Glee’s version of Teenage Dream, but there’s this one part where there’s this crescendo and it just sounds unnaturally clean to me. So I put together a comparison of that bit from the version on Glee vs it being sung live by the guys who actually record the background vocals for the Warblers (the Tufts Beelzebubs). Myself, I’d much rather hear the rougher original voices than something that sounds just a little too perfect.
I mean, I get the need/desire for correction and all that in the studio, I just wish it would get toned down a little more sometimes. (And I understand that Teenage Dream was mostly recorded by the Tufts Beelzebubs and not the usual Glee studios, but sometimes the Bubs are definitely guilty of overproduction on their own albums, IMO.)
THAT’S JUST MY NITPICK FOR THE NIGHT.
BAM. The Tufts Beelzebubs (aka for the billionth time in case this gets reblogged, the actual singers who provide the arrangements and non-Darren Criss vocals of Glee’s Dalton Academy Warblers) performing “Teenage Dream” live. (Again.)
It seemed like there was a little disappointment with them before mostly because people seemed to feel that Conor Flynn, the soloist the Bubs have in lieu of Darren Criss, was a let down in comparison. However, I think it’s really come together and this is definitely worth a re-listening if you saw previous videos of them performing the song.
If you need some more live a cappella Teenage Dream on your MP3 player of choice I’ve ripped it.
