I appreciate that Jon Foreman of Switchfoot has side projects that allow him to write whacky songs like this.

Um.

It’s Anberlin and Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman covering “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House.

Yes.

Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman sings my favorite song off their new album (“Vice Verses”), live on a street corner because he does stuff like that. (Song actually starts around 1:40.)

A lot of people know the song “Only Hope” from when Mandy Moore sang it in A Walk to Remember. Here it is sung live and acoustic by the guy who wrote it, Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman.

So, I just stayed up all night reading all of John Green’s new book, The Fault In Our Stars (not that I am not generally up all night anyway). Rather than say anything about it just yet, I’m going to post this song from one of my favorite songwriters (and another of my favorite, though h-less, Johns in this world), which the book brought to mind.

If you are not familiar with John Green’s books, I recommend them. He is, of course, a fellow Tumblr-er (the actually-answers-ask-box-messages-sometimes-and-reblogs-memes type of blogger, I assure you) and his books are in a way like Tumblr: occasionally a little pretentious, often very hilarious, and at their best very thought-provoking and moving as well.

"Our society is fraught with inconsistencies and absurdities. We claim to believe that all of humankind is created equal in a country torn apart by racial tension. We deem killing to be punishable by death but honorable under the title of war. We claim to serve a God who loves the poor in rich cathedrals and gold plated steeples. We objectify women and wonder why daddy’s little girl has low self-esteem. The highs and lows, the dark and the light. This is the absurdity of our bipolar existence."

Finished listening through Switchfoot’s new album, Vice Verses, on my bus ride home today. This is the song “Vice Verses.” Can we talk about my respect for Jon Foreman’s songwriting? He tackles such heavy subjects and big life questions in a way that feels personal and poetic.

Let the Pacific laugh
Be on my epitaph
With its rising and falling
And after all, it’s just water
And I am just soul
With a body of water and bone
Water and bone

Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman does a live acoustic performance of “This Is Home” from Prince Caspian.

“Greetings amigos!

When my brother and I were kids, my dad used to read us CS Lewis books before we went to sleep. So when we were asked to be involved in a movie based on his book, “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” - we were honored to be considered.

I wanted to capture the longing that is embedded in much of Lewis’ writing- so I tried to think back to what these stories meant to me when I was six years old and write from that perspective. The song that came out is called “This is Home.”“
