Ensemble members from the Broadway cast of Spring Awakening in their costumes. To blend in with the rest of the on-stage audience, they dressed in contemporary clothes that allowed them to conceal their handheld microphones. They wore the same thing every night, though their outfits were changed seasonally.

Matt Doyle - “If Morning Can’t Wait”

I’m in love with this performance of this song.

I was just listening to Rent and reminiscing about that time Matt Doyle sang “I’ll Cover You (Reprise)” (really).

Spring Awakening Holiday Compilations

It’s about that time of year when radio stations are hauling out their holiday music and so on, so here’s a reminder that the past two years I have made compilations of holiday songs performed by alumni of the Broadway, West End, and two touring companies of Spring Awakening. (Whether there will be 2012 compilation is still up in the air. It’s getting tougher and tougher to find songs, as you can see by how tentatively relevant some of the 2011 songs are.)

Here they are if you haven’t seen them before. Apologies for the shifting tracklist formats and if any of the source links are broken as I’m stealing them from the original posts:

Matt Doyle covers “If It Makes You Happy” by Sheryl Crow. Apparently rumor has it he might be involved with her upcoming musical.

Some glimpses into Matt Doyle’s sadly brief time as Melchior in the first national tour of Spring Awakening.

I saw him as Hanschen(pretty sure…I think I’m remembering that correctly) on Broadway, and I really love him.

He was Hanschen for a good chunk of time on Broadway so you probably did. He’s an excellent Melchior.
