I’m not entirely sure how I feel about RENT coming back off-Broadway (as the article mentions, I’m one of the people who said, “Already?”), but I am curious to see the new look of it. I gather the set is entirely different, and obviously the costumes as well.

WOW Shingledecker looks different (in an appropriate way). I’m glad they’re keeping it in the early 90s and have hopefully learned some lessons from Rent Remixed.

I will continue to bite my tongue about Arianda Fernandez until the show opens and she has a fair chance to potentially redeem herself after my past experience.

I don’t find myself having many feelings about the revival other than the above. It doesn’t seem like that big of a deal for some reason, maybe because the original production had such a long run.

You don’t think Wilson Jermaine Heredia, the original Angel and a straight man, pulled off the role? His Tony award disagrees.

That statement just strikes me as sort of… reverse Ramin Setoodeh. Actors have proven that they are indeed actors and can play characters of opposing sexual orientations (Speaking of Glee, Darren Criss? Jane Lynch? Ahem, Telly Leung? etc.), unless the anon was somehow trying to imply that gays are inherently better at pulling off dressing as women, in which case I’d like to point out that most drag queens may be gay men but most transvestites are straight (I know because a transvestite told me).

Just sayin.
