* Maybe don’t count as covers but just roll with me here.

Edit: By the way, one cover they did that’s not included is Seal’s Kiss From a Rose, because I had included it on a previous compilation. You can get it individually as a bonus track if you like, however.

can we talk for a second about how the spring standards is one of my favorite bands

So basically I don’t go to concerts ever, except when they are on the internet. SUCH IS MY LIFE. The sound on this is generally clearish, with a little peaking when things get super loud — such as in The Spring Standard’s “Not Again”..

7 Musicians or Bands Who Were the Soundtrack to My 2010

#4 The Spring Standards

I’ve been following these people for what feels like forever In fact, the current title of my Tumblog is one of their lyrics. I fell in love with them when they were Old Springs Pike, just an obscure folk-rock-y band from New York, and I feel like over time I’ve watched them grow up to become a fancy band with a full length album and TV appearances and tours (if only they would tour by me). Their album Would Things Be Different came out in 2010 and definitely got its fair share of plays on my MP3 player this year.

One of my favorite bands covering one of my favorite songs.

Have I expressed my love for The Spring Standards lately?

However, one unfortunate thing about the original lineup of Old Springs Pike is for some reason Heather never really got the spotlight as much as the boys — there was only one song I can think of where she ever sang lead vocals. Since The Spring Standards formed, the distribution of lead vocals has evened out more and Heather gets to sing plenty — and it’s definitely a good thing because she can siiiiiiiiing.

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

I don’t know how like… appropriate it’s considered to post videos of Old Springs Pike that have since been taken down by the former band members, but I’m going to risk it because I’d really like to share this one. I became curious about Old Springs Pike after Gallagher mentioned it in an interview, and I can remember searching them on YouTube with honestly low expectations. This was the first video I clicked on and I was blown. away. I liked them immediately, and I was so pleasantly surprised to see that it wasn’t “John Gallagher Jr’s band” but rather he was only a part of what was clearly a very talented group of people who were all pulling their weight.

I ended up clicking on the first part of the Rockwood concert after this, just out of curiosity… and then somehow the next thing I knew I’d watched the whole concert and was disappointed that there wasn’t more when it was over. They were THAT good. I’ve been in love with them all since. I firmly believe that someday, someday I will get the chance to see The Spring Standards (that is, OSP sans John) or John live in concert. (Thus far the closest TSS has come is Chicago, and though I’m willing to go that far for Spring Awakening I’m still holding out hope that TSS will come closer.)
